National Archeological Museum of Athens

I'm interested in visiting Athen's National Archeological Museum when the ship is in the port of Piraeus. Has anyone gone from the ship to the museum on their own? I'm trying to figure out the best way to get there e.g. train or taxi. I have read tips on how to take the train to the Plaka but I do not know how far the museum is from the Plaka. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've walked to the museum from the Plaka but then, I had plenty of time - its not far and on a nice day it's fun to do. Pressed for time, take a cab! Here is a map of Athens that you can look at. Please note it is only 8 blocks from the Omonia metro station.

Thanks so much for the information. It's exactly what I needed, especially the map! Looks like I'll take the train from Pireaus to the Platka and then walk to the museum. Depending on how my feet hold up, I'll either walk or taxi back to the Platka. Cheers.
