I will be going on a Royal Caribbean cruise in August. We will be stopping at the following ports. I can't afford to do a ships excursion on all the ports. So I need some feedback on which ports I should get a ships excursion and which ones I can just do on my own. Also looking for what are the best places to see at these ports.
We will be at these ports for one day each.
Barcelona, Spain
Naples/Capri, Italy
Rome/(Civitavecchia), Italy
Florence/Pisa/Livorno), Italy
Nice/(Villefranche), France
Provence/(Marseilles), France
Ports are in parenthesis

Hey, Choward... Welcome to cruise chat where "we treat you like family." --maybe Olive Garden won't sue me for that quote. Let me introduce a feature that will give you all the help that you need. Immediately above your first post you will notice several tabs. Click on the one that says "Find". Enter in any of your ports into the Keyword Search box and click on "GO". This will give you a plethora of information from veterans and first-time cruisers. Have fun and let us know if you need help with a specific port.

I think I will look into some private tours. I've been told about Romecabs.com and Romeinlimo.com. Does anyone else know of any reputable tour companies? Someone said it may be too late to book for early September.

Ports of Livorno, Naples and Rome are ones that you can do yourself (and save a lot) as long as you are willing to spend some time doing some research. This board (and others) have a wealth of information if you spend some time on them. as drlivingston said, become good friends with the 'Find' tab. Google can also provide a wealth of information.
