I made a big oops. Being a rookie, I goofed in booking my return air. I booked from Rome THE DAY BEFORE the ship arrives (Carnival). How can I get from Liverno on Oct 12 (ship arrives at 7 am) to Rome for a 2pm flight? THere are three adults in my traveling party. Should we hire a car to drive to ROme? Or to Drive to FLorence and fly to Rome? Or take a train to the Rome airport. I need to balence costs against likliwhood of success. THanks!

Can you change your ticket out to the next day ?
Weigh that against the cost of a private service to get to Rome
another option... see if the airline will let you fly out of Florence.
The easiest way is private transfer
otherwise you are taking a train/car to Florence then train to Rome then getting to the airport.
good luck

OK here are your choices
(1)Change you flight
(2) Get a private driver [very, very expensive]
(3) Fly from Pisa to Rome (no flights from Florence.) $190 per adult. Possible gotcha is that it's Alitalia (they might not be around.)
(4) Train from Livorno to Roma Termini. There is a Eurostar at 08:10 that arrives at Roma Termini at 10:57. The Leonardo Express at 11:22 will get you to FCO in about 35 minutes. Enough time for your flight. The ES is $52.75pp (first class), Leonardo is $14.00pp.
My strong recommendation if you cannot do (1) is to do (4).

In your situation, grab the first cab you can get. You don't have time to pick and choose. Buy your tickets for the Eurostar PLUS your tickets for the Leonardo Express from Roma Termini to FCO. You won't have time at Termini to mess with ticket purchases.

There are no flights from Florence to Rome that you would be able to connect with. Earliest is 15:20. That again, is Alitalia (which, quite probably, will not be flying any longer by your date.)

Meant to add:
Livorno to Pisa (by train) is about 15 minutes.
Livorno to Florence (by train) is about 80-90 minutes.

Thanks. I spoke to the airline and the italian man who answered told me he strongly advises against trains in italy as they are notorious for being late. Flying (again per his advice) will not (in his opinion) get me to rome airport in time to make the transfer as three hours is recommended (we will be transferring from domestic to international) and all the flights he checked would not work. What time was the Pisa flight you found? Flight number? Thanks for your help. I may have no option but to hire a private car which will cost 490 Euro.

Take the train!! The guy is wrong!! I have taken over 160 trains in Italy. If I were in your shoes, I'd take my advice. The Regionale trains are the ones, if any, that might be late (but that is pretty rare.)

The Pisa flight is at 11:20 so you won't make the domestic to international transfer thing (forgot about the bags.)
