Port of Livorno

I will be on Carnival Splendour on September 11th, 2008. I would like to know where exactly the ship will dock and how to get to the city of Livorno by myself. Thank you. Moïka

Thank you for the information. But why can't I walk to town? And is therer a fare for the shuttle bus from the pier to Piazza Grande?

Walking to town. It will really depend uopn where your ship actually ends up docking. If it is at the bottom pier in the referenced picture, then you should be able to walk. Any other locations you will be in the middle of a very busy port and they probably will not let you walk.

The shuttle bus to Piazza Grande should be free.

Welcome to cruise-chat.
Yes, there is a free shuttle to town, if I remember correctly it was free, but the driver appreciates a tip. The staff on the ship doesn't push any of the free shuttles.
It is worth going there. There's a lot of shopping.

Does anyone know what time the free shuttle leaves from the ship to Livorno ? Also, how long a wait for the next shuttle if you miss the first one?

Hi Stoneagent,
If I remember correctly the shuttles to Livorno ran frequently. Double check with the cruise line before you leave the ship.

FTRoute was correct in that you are not allowed to walk out of the port from the pier. Lately, all the major cruise lines are berthing in a secure area of the port which is about a 1 mile walk to the entrance. But, they have security on the pier and they will stop you if you try to walk. As the others have said, you can take advantage of the shuttle.
