Hotel in Athens near port

My wife and I will be leaving from Athens for our big cruise/trip next winter. We have been to Athens before (sadly on 9-11) and would like to know if anyone can recommend a hotel convenient to the port. Thank you!

The port is a long way from the airport. Is it even advisable to stay near the port? Opinions?

The port is actually in Piraeus, a good distance from the sights of Athens. We normally stay around the Plaka area and the taxi to the port when we are ready to board the ship. It is only about a 20 minute rides, or so. Find one that is within easy walking distance to the Plaka. Going from memory only, I believe the hotel we stay at is called the Olympia, or something like that.
