Well, I'll try to answer your question. The port is in the city. If you get off the ship and walk out of the port entrance, you are there. We walked to the train station and went to Pompeii and Sorento on our own, it is very easy to do. I don't know about tour buses in Naples itself... We didn't stay in the city.

Yes indeed, getting from the port to beautiful (ahem) downtown Naples is just a short walk. I spent many days there when my Navy ships would pull in. I had a favorite bar where I always stopped for espresso. I could walk to it from the pier within 10 minutes, which included dodging the traffic as we crossed the street directly outside the port gates.

Yes, Naples is a pedestrian's nightmare; take a train to Pompeii or a hydrofoil to Capri.

We liked going to Sorrento too. I hate to bash Napoli, but it is what it is - a big city full of people, traffic (that doesn't obey traffic signals), pollution, and noise. Getting away from it is the thing to do.
