If a person reserves a shore excursion through the ship, will the ship wait on you to return with the tour before departing once again?
I have sailed many times to the Caribbean and feel comfortable with getting around on our own but this is the first European trip and so I have scheduled many tours. HoOwever a few are 9 1/2 hours and that gives about 45 min to spare.
Should I rethink? Thanks.

Yes, they will wait. They will also know where you are in case any problems develop. For example, we were on a tour in a very remote part of Norway earlier this summer when our bus did not show to pick us up for the return to the ship. Both a tour guide and someone from the ship's crew were with us, and between them were able to alert the tour company and the ship. After about an hour wait, we were on our way. (And, also received a refund of 50% of the cost of the tour.) Had we been on our own, we would have been -- well, on our own.

That said, there are some tours in Europe that you can certainly do on your own (although the ones with little time to spare may be out of the question). What are your ports of call?

Lisa,
Thank you. Our itinerery includes:
Monte Carlo, Livorno/Florence, Naples,Santorini, Greece, Ephesus, Turkey,
Mykonos, Athens, Katakolon, Corfu and Venice.
Right now we have tours in all but Mykonos and Corfu and Venice. We will be stayimg over in Venice so we figured we would do our own stuff there for a few days. Mykonos and Corfu seem small enough to do the same. ANy other suggestions in any of the other ports. You are wonderful to help me. Thanks again.
