Hi there,

First of all, please forgive my not-so-well English as English is not my first language!

I am bringing my 69-year-old mother to a cruise starting from Venice. We will be arriving at the airport one day earlier. We are planning to stay at a hotel where water taxi serves. I was told the cost is around Euro 50-80 from the aiport to the city center and should negotiate with the driver first. Is that true?

If the description of the location of a hotel does not include the means of water taxi, does that mean it is not possible to reach by water taxi?

How much will it cost from a hotel, say just in the city center, to the cruise terminal by 1) water taxi ;2) other means of transportation?

On the last day, we will be heading to the aiport, is there a shuttle bus from the terminal to the airport free of charge? Do we have to book in advance?

This is not exactly what you asked, but I am just going to tell you my recent experience precruise in Venice. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza, which is NOT in Venice, but is absolutely right next to a railway station with frequent half hour trains to Venice (and the hotel provides free RT train tickets if you book online.). The great part about this hotel is that they meet you at the airport, with a big sign with your name (impossible to miss them), and provide free transportation from the airport to the hotel. You do need to take a taxi to the cruiseport the next day, but it is not that expensive. This is an easy and less expensive alternative, with no dragging suitcases up stairs, over bridges, and down the stairs as you usually have to do in the heart of Venice.

Thanks, seems a good alternative. Crown Plaza is the hotel I frequently stay when I travel to Tokyo, Japan. Also, what is an RT train ticket?

They give you a free round trip (RT) train ticket to Venice each day that you stay there, as long as you have booked online. The train ride is only about 30 minutes, and there are frequent trains.

Just to give a little more information If you do not want to eat dinner in Venice, an inexpensive alternative is the restaurant at the train station (which is like a very nice food court with different stations, and an outdoor eating area as well), or back at the hotel a sandwich in the lounge. There is a restaurant at the hotel, but dinner there is a buffet.

You could look at http://www.lacalcina.com/HTML/en/cal...lbergo_en.html
The vaporetto stops right near & the Alilaguna you can get from the airport to Zattere for $12 E pp
Take the red line
http://www.alilaguna.com/?funzione=1...alore=8&modo=6

Other hotels check www.venere.com
Be sure to check the location so you are not lugging suitcases over bridges etc..
There are some hotels at PL Roma and you can catch the #5 blue bus from the airport for 3E pp or a land taxi.
You are going to Venice why not stay close to the sights

Hm, seems suddenly there are so many good options to choose from. Thanks a lot!

Just two further questions:

1) Anyone has gone to an opera or similar in a Venice theatre? Any suggestions?

2) Can anyone tell me why mid July through mid August is a medium season in Venice, because of the hot weather?

We are cruising in July on the Celebrity Summit, ending up in Venice. We have booked tickets for Aida in the Roman Arena in Verona. It's about a 1 hr. train ride from Venice, and a city worth seeing on it's own. You can book tickets for the opera online.

Teatro la Fenice... rebuilt from the fire and awe inspiring. It helps to read "The City of Falling Angels" by John Berendt to get a true feeling for the history of the theater and a good insight to the local mentality of Venice.

we are also staying in a hotel that is not in venice central but at the airport..holiday inn d'altino...just for one night...then have the complimentary train take us into venice...

my question is this...

how close is the last train station from the pier?..can you walk it with a lot of luggage...2pp...?...if not what do you need to take to get you to the pier and how much would that be?
