Parker - follow ftroute's instructions. That is what we plan on doing and I have to believe its cheaper than the $69 pp for the "do it yourself tour". Your basically paying thm $69 for the instructions on getting to Florence. (Just read the posts from ftroute and hank before my last one for more information. From my experience in other ports and from the instructions they provided I don't think I will have any problems getting around (I've been to Europe before so I have some experience using the train systems)

Thanks Jim, I am going to take your advice and cancel the ship's shore excursion. I am feeling a little more comfortable about the public transportation after reading the reviews.

From there, refer to Livorno to Florence for specific train details. It is really quite easy!
