Hello HH ....welcome to cruise chat, you are probably not aware that this question gets asked quite a bit and there are one or two people who will be pleased to help.
You might like to look at the bar above your post where it says " Go " " New " " Find "
with your mouse ....left click on " Find "
A space will appear where you can do a search so type in Citavecchia to Rome or just the first word and then click on "GO" and you will get lots of information....if there is still something you need to know ....post that question in this post and you should get an answer....good luck... jack

Yes, I can help. Yes, it is fairly easy. Post your email address and I'll respond with a clear, concise, suitable answer.

OK. Here is a question I hope someone can answer.

We are planning on taking the train from our pre cruise hotel in Rome to Citavecchia. I have been looking at the port with Google Earth and have found the train station. My question is this, where do we have to get to from the train station in order to get onto the port's shuttle busses? Hank made the claim that it was a few blocks and walkable in one post, but without having been there I'm not sure where it is I am supposed to walk to. I see the fort there on Google.. It looks like a possible place to grab a shuttle bus, but I can't really be sure. Has anyone walked from or to the train station? Where is the shuttle bus stop?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jim C.
the shuttle buses are in walkable distance to the train station, if you don´t mind a 10 min walk with all your luggage. My friend nearly killed me as her suitcase was quite havy...

If by any means you are absolutely thrilled to walk do so, I think we´ll take a taxi next time...

kasi- Thanks for the reply.

I don't have an aversion to taking a taxi, but several times it has been stated that the taxis don't always take such short fares. So, if we can't get a taxi, I want to be sure we can walk it. I don't plan on packing too much and our suitcases are all wheeled, so a ten minute walk is not to concerning to me. Is there an obvious bus stop? Like a sign or a waiting area that we should be able to find. I'm just trying to be prepared so we are not standing around trying to figure out where to go...

You should have no problems to find the shuttle-busstop at the harbour entry, just walk right when getting out of the trainstation, preferably at the waterside. When getting to the shuttle area, please be aware, that there might be more ships in port, so take the correct shuttle bus, they are all marked...

You found the port and you found the shuttle stop. It is on the NE corner of the fort. (Shoreline runs N/S for all intents.)

Have walked to and from the port from train station. No big deal. As you leave the train station and head North (to your left) I would suggest staying along the parking area as the pavement is smooth (the sidewalk across the street is cobblestone.) As you approach the port, cross the street. You will go slightly downhill as you approach the fort. The shuttle stop will be on your right (covered area - hard to miss.)

Thanks ftroute! Perfect response. It answered everything. Now I am comfortable knowing where to go and how far of a walk it is.

Google is a great travel planning tool, isn't it? Last spring I learned of an inexpensive 5-star restaurant near the Trevi area in Rome (located on an alley.) I found it on Google Earth and was able to almost literally 'walk' from there to our hotel and back. When we were there in June, we walked right to it like we had done it everyday!
