am arriving in Portofino via Royal Caribbean cruise soon. Would like to go to Castello Brown which I believe is in Santa Margherita Ligure. How can I travel from the Port to the Castle? Is San Giorio Church on the way? Any advice would be helpful

I was not aware that RCI had cruises calling directly at Portofino...which would be a tender port. Castello Brown is actually located above Portofino and not in Santa Margherita. You can actually hike up to the Catello from the harbor (where the tender land) and there are signs to direct you to the route. The local tourist office can also give you info. I suppose it is possible to get a taxi up the road, but on our visits to the area we have found taxis hard to find. So, where comfortable hiking shoes and you can work-off some of those cruise ship calories.

Yes, RCL has a 12 day Italy cruise that includes Portofino (in fact it is the first stop). You are right that it is tendered.
Thanks for the advice. |
You are on the same cruise that we were on last Oct (only ours was 13NT). You can walk from the port area to the church and on to the Castello. Not a bad jaunt, somewhat steep in a few areas, but not bad overall. Some very beautiful vistas along the way.
You might also want to consider a bus ride to Santa Margherita while you are there. About 20 minutes. Great little town to walk around in. go to www dot ftroute dot com and click on cruises, find our Italy and Croatia review. |
