Thank you, Hank! i just prefer to use the card than carrying extra cash. will see. i hope buying at the ticket window with a card will not be a problem. as to the seats, i trully hope that the work day doesn't start after 10 in rome(although who knows),and, since we are hoping to catch the 9-something train hopefully will get seats. another questions (totally not related to the previous one): are there any easily accessable public toilets in the Rome and Florence? Thank you very much!

Hi Anya25,

We are not talking big sums of money here for train travel to Rome from Civitavecchia. $10 euros at most if I recall. So no real need for credit card. Just plain old euros. Also, these are commuter trains. People take these trains to work in Rome or to school so they start to run pretty early. The walk to the station from Port of Cititavecchia is not short. It is a good 15 minutes. Port bus will take you so far and then you walk rest of way.

anya25- If you have not done so already, tt wouldn't hurt for you to read the sticky topic at the top of this section train travel in Italy. It is really comprehensive and its good to know how it works before you go. Once you read that you won't have any problems getting around using the trains.

Love the toilet question as my wife has tough criteria for toilets (clean clean). There are some public toilets near popular tourist sites, but we prefer to avoid those in favor of cafes. When we need to use a toilet we just stop at a cafe and I am usually content to have an espresso while my other half checks out the facilities. If you happen to be in a museum they will also have pretty decent rest rooms.
