Helsinki, is it worth it?

Hi all,

I'm going on a cruise to Scandinavia and am thinking about skipping Finland, Helsinki port.
Is it worth going to? Is there much to see? I've read some reviews, but honestly, they don't really tickle my fancy.
We have only about 8 hours to see the city anyhow, so what can one see of Helsinki in that time?

We thought Helsinki was one of the highlights of our Baltic cruise; of course we thought every city was a highlight. I can't imagine why you would single out Helsinki to skip. It is a beautiful city, rich in culture and history. We took a walking tour and loved it.

I agree with F-Mattox, why would you want to miss the Capital city of Finland? I enjoyed just walking down the main street area looking at all the monuements and statues. At the far end was a nice craft and Farmer's market. Directly by the Farmer's market I bought a ticket on a harbor cruise excursion which took us around to historical sites. Here

Thank you for the link to the Helsinki port review. We will be sailing on the Emerald Princess Baltic cruise on 25th June. Although we have already researched all the ports we were delighted to read this review. Helsinki was the one port we had been unable to get a 'feel' for. Now we are looking forward to visiting Finland and will be able to make the best use of our day.
