If I were able to go back in time and do Rome with our kids when they were the ages of yours, I think that I would give serious consideration to the double-decker hop-on/hop-off bus. It is unique and the open air top should have some appeal. If they saw something that appeared to interest them, just hop off and walk a while. It is quite different from a 'tour bus' atmosphere. Almost like Disney (Italian style.)

Thanks guys. We used umbrella strollers last year (the cheap, light weight strollers) and they worked very well on days when we knew we would be doing a considerable amount of walking. And we definitely spent more than we care to recall on gelato. We found we could take them just about anywhere as long as we could find some ice cream, a park, and maybe a few birds or fish to feed during the day. Like the idea of the double decker bus. We used that in Barcelona last year, but I never considered it for Rome. Thanks again for your insight. We are very new to cruising and have found the advice given extremely helpful!
