Hi!
I was just reading some comments on a different part of this web site and in reading came up with a question. Here it goes....I am planning on going cave tubing but not through a shore excursion of RCI. I know I need to have the parents of the child (18 years old) who is not mine sign his life away and over to me in order to do anything on the ship. What happens with him when we go on a shore excursion through a different company? In real life he is out of school and old enough to live on his own so how does this work?
Thanks in advance!

Gee, we just traveled with a legal adult (over 18) who was not ours and we didn't have to do anything other than assure RCCL that he would be in a room with a person over 21 (RCCLs legal adult).

Generally, a tour operator isn't going to want anything other than your money and perhaps signed waivers in case you get injured for some tours. If you are talking about cave tubing in Belize, the legal age there is 18 anyway so there should be no problems.

Thanks for both of your answers. To spoheat...everything that I have read said that I need a notarized letter from the parent in order for him to do anything on the ship.
To Dave...thanks that is exactly what and where I was talking about.
I'm so excited!!!!

glad they didn't enforce that for us! We had nothing with and TA didn't advise us to do so. We did have to have him officially booked into a room with one of us who was over 21 (no "kids" room).

Oh yeah, as for shore tour vendors, I nobody asked the age of any of the kids, or if any of them weren't ours. Things run fairly loosely on these islands.

Thanks!

idreamofcrusing- get the notarized letter. Most likely you won't need it but you don't want to be standing at the cruise check in counter and find out he would be denied boarding. At 18, they might not ask, but then again they should. Better to have yourself covered.

As for the cave tubing, they won't ask nor care how old he is as long as he pays the money.

Thanks Jim!
