Let's say i am going to drive to Canada next year would I need a passport to enter into Canada?? A co-worker is taking this trip and asked me so I am asking my good friends here.

Yes, your friend will DEFINITELY need his/her passport. I'm 4 hours from the Montreal border and visit relatives there often.
