Hi Fellow Cruisers,

I have a family friend who is considering their first cruise. However, they are concerned about eating on the ship. Specifically, one of their children has a severe food allergy to nuts and eggs. The other child suffers from Crohn's Disease, and is on a limited diet. Would a cruise still work for them?

Thanks,

MamaofEnS

Most if not all cruise lines accomodate special dietary needs. It is important to mention the specifics to your agent when making the booking. If you go to the various cruise line websites and enter "special needs" or "allergies" in the search window you'll find more information.

You or your agent should contact Special Services well in advance.
When you board speak to the hotel or food services manager so you can speak with the chef

Our friend has a nut allergy he is given the menu the night before to choose what he would like the next day for meals
Then when he comes to the dining room he gives them his cabin number & his meal appears with the other
You need to eat in the dining room for more control
If they require foods like gluten free or dairy free then they will usually order them to have onboard if given plenty of notice
