Hi, As you can tell by my user name...I'm new at this. I can not sleep without the noise of a fan. Should we take a small one or do they have these if we ask? This will be on a Princess ship. Thanks.

If the issue is having "white noise" and not necessarily the moving air from the fan, you can purchase small electronic items which emit some kind of gentle noise, and will be much easier to pack than a fan (and take up way less space!) We have one we bought from Sharper Image, but I have seen others in other catalogues - try Travelsmith or Magellan's, or a travel store if you have one nearby. You usually get a choice of sounds - a stream, rain, ocean waves, etc. (Ours has about 15 choices, ranging from city traffic (!) to nighttime crickets.) We have taken it practically everywhere and like it so much we even use it every night at home.

Thanks for the idea, and I may try to find one. This is such a last minute thought, we actually are leaving this coming Thursday to drive to Galveston so that leaves no time to order anything. I like the noise, my husband likes the air on his face! We do have a real small fan that will fit just in the corner of our suitcase but it would sure be nice if the ships had some. Guess I'll pack it just in case. And who knows, we may be so tired that we "drop" when our heads hit the pillows.

A different idea. My family and I are going on the Victory in October and my parents and sister are big coffee drinkers and do not want to wait for room service all the time, so we are purchasing an inexpensive coffee maker prior to boarding. We do not want to carry it on the plane. When we leave the ship we will leave the coffee maker and a note that the steward can have it. This way my family can enjoy having coffee but not have to worry about packing a coffee maker.

You will find that by the time your coffee pot makes a pot of coffee, room service will have delivered a pot, or two if you ask! And no lugging around heavy needless items. You will also find many coffee stations around the ship.

What my wife and I did was to purchase a white noise maker prior to the cruise. Started playing it at night so we would be use to the noise. This helped alot.
