So is this quest for a shave sort of like looking for a great martini? I guess everyone has some quirks, but longing for a straight razor shave is really out there. I won't get into the apparent fixation with sharp implements.

I've never really looked forward to shaving, or gone on a cruise because rumor had it that a really great barber was aboard. To me a Gillette Mach 3 turbo and a can of Foamy will do nicely. Actually the only reason I don't have a beard is because of a job requirement to be clean-shaven. Once I retire my razor blade usage will take a steep decline!
