My fiance is very much into the straight edge razor shave (or whatever its called)...the old fashioned shave. He has some old fashioned razor and feels they are a superior shave to normal shaving that he has done in the past. As a woman I know nothing about this world! His uncle just returned from a cruise where he purchased a shave onboard for I think $80 and all he got was a shave with a regular Mach3 and it wasn't all that great. Has any man out there gotten a shave on a cruise ship that was just out of this world?

I looked at the price lists for services for men on my last few cruises. I saw similar prices for shaves and much more for a shave and a haircut.

Sorry. Nobody could give me a better shave than I can give myself--at any price.

I take it "Shave and a Haircut, 2 bits" doesn't apply on a cruise ship?

The last good shave I got was this morning and all it took was a steaming towel, Barbasol and a Gillette safety razor.

I don't know if a proper shave is on the menu, but one of the enhancements made to Celebrity Century last year was the addition of a barbershop.

A barbershop is a great idea; a lot of us have never warmed up to the "salon" concept.

There is a wonderful hair cut place in Houston I just stumbled across when my barber was closed and I really needed a cut. Two lovely Asian women run it and after they cut my hair I started to get up. The one cutting my hair pulled me back into the chair and massaged my shoulder, neck, scalp and temples. I've never been back to my barber Clyde since, not going back either. If they hired these two ladies on the ship I'd pay the $80. for a haircut.

BTW, when I asked what I owed she said $7. I flip 'em a $20. every time now and get more massage time without asking.

Cheers, Neil

On a cruise or on other trips, instead of a big can of Barbasol, I'll carry shave secret. You get an amazingly close shave with 6 drops of this stuff. Here is a link: http://www.shavesecret.com/

Looks interesting, Ken; but the Barbasol fits nicely inside a tennis shoe which goes in the bottom of the garment bag, so it's really no problem.

Neil, that has got to be about the best deal I've ever heard of. If they would like to open a branch in Costa Mesa, I'll help finance it.

There was a topless barbershop near the hotel where I stayed in San Francisco when I was working there in '67; but I was too chicken to try it; boy was I naive. I guy I was working with hit on a "chick" at Finocchio's; he was pretty naive too.
