on the Celebrity constellation? My husband and I both drink and we only plan on doing one shore excursion because we plan to take advantage of what the ship has to offer.

Unfortunately you are the only one that can answer that because you know your spending habits. One thing that is always suggested is bring twice the money you would normally expect to spend.

Seeing everything goes on a sign and sail card onboard the ship it is easy to run up a higher bill than expected. Make sure you always check your receipts that you will be given even for a drink. There will be an automatic 15% tip added to each drink bill also.

You will probably buy a few pictures that can add up quickly and probably a few gifts from the ship.

The tours from the ship can run from $25 up into the hundreds of dollars per person depending on the type of tour you take.

Your best bet is figure what you can afford to spend and than keep track of how much you spend with the receipts and try to stay within your own budget.

If you are really carefull, you don't have to spend too much at all. Since you said you and your husband are drinkers, you might want to bring a bottle of your favorite with you in your luggage and splurge on one drink apiece at a bar each day. The average cost of a mixed drink is about $5.00 more or less and I think beer is about $3.50. If you are like my husband and I, we are not too big on souviener buying. Keep your buying at the ports to a minimal because of space and you never know what the next port will have!

One thing I have noticed on the 3 cruises we have been on: All the shops on board have these "clearance" sales the last night of the cruise. We always just browse the shops and if we find something we want, we ask if there are plenty in stock. Most times the answer is yes. Then we check back the last night and we have found some of the items on "clearance". Has anyone else noticed this??

We have found cruising is a very inexpensive way of vacationing and there are many ways to help keep costs down.

Take at least $100.00 in singles for all the various TIPS that are not covered in your prepaid tipping and charge everything else to your credit card. The singles also come in handy when you are on the islands for cab fares, etc.

Spending Money Question
Celebrity now allows you to put standard tips - waiter; assistant waiter; room steward etc. on your ship's credit card. If you don't want to do this, the standard total is $9.50 per passenger per day, or $133.00 for both of you for 7 days. Better round it to $150.00. We do not tip anyone else on their "suggested" list unless the assistant maitre'd has actually been helpful. This has varied a lot on different cruises, so somtimes we have done this and sometimes not. In any event you are talking a total of about $20.00 for a very good assistant maitre'd.
If you bring your own booze on board - wrap it carefully and bring your own opener.
Almost all shore shops will accept major credit cards, but bring your driver's license in case thet want a photo ID.
Since Celebrity adds the tip to all drinks, you don't need cash for bartenders or cocktail waitresses.
The comment on shipboard shops was accurate, and there are intermittent sales throughout the cruise as well with some good deals. - But all of these purchases are by ship's credit card anyway.
The casino is all cash, and the only place on the ship where you will see it. If you do't gamble, this becomes no problem. If you do - the sky is the limit!
You may want to use cash for eating and drinking on shore, and for cabs or busses in lieu of ship's tours. A good supply of singles is handy, but I doubt if you will need more than $50.00 singles for a relatively short trip.
So what do you need in total pocket cash? If you are going to charge the ship's staff tips and don't plan on major shore shopping with cash; $100.00 per shore day is plenty. You will spend $0.00 on sea days (unless you visit the casino)
And don't carry too much cash on shore at any time in any port. Your cabin will have a safe. Use it.
I have done a number of mega-reviews on this site, including 2 on Infinity, 1 on Galaxy and 1 on Millennium, as well as ones on Sun Princess, Norwegian Sun and Regal Princess. You might enjoy them.
Bon Voyage
