what to do before cruise?

I will be in the ft. lauderdale and miami area for five days before my cruise. Any suggestions on where to go for deep sea fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and any tours? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

One thing my wife and I did was take a trip into the Everglades and go for an airboat ride. They have short and long trips. We found that quite interesting. In Miami we found the southbeach area quite interesting for people watching and finding interesting shops.

I haven't been there much so that is pretty much all we have done.

Definitely take the water taxi in Ft. Lauderdale and do one of the fun dinner cruises - such as the Jungle Queen. These are excellent guided tours of the homes of the millionares and their yachts. Also, head to Las Olas and Beachfront for good shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Along the river by the hotels (Bahia Mar Yacht Basin) you can find vendors selling parasailing rides, water sport rental equipment, deep sea fishing, glass bottom boat tours, and snorkeling trips. Orlando is about 3-4 hours away if you want to get Disney'ed. If you are going to spend 5 days in Ft. Lauderdale, I would recommend renting a condo instead of staying a hotel the whole time. It lets you get more comfortable away from home.
