We want to go on a cruise over Valentine's week but want warm weather and a fun ship as we are in our 30's. Going with another couple as neither have been to the caribbean on a cruise. I have only sailed Holland Mexician Riveria last Feb.

Welcome to cruise chat, keli. You have come to the right place and we are glad to have you. Which do you prefer... western or eastern caribbean? How long do you want the cruise to be? As far as fun boats are concerned and with your age bracket, you will probably be better suited for Carnival or Royal Caribbean. They both have stellar ships and a wide array of iteneraries to suit almost any taste.

That is my question if the weather would be better in the western or eastern in Feb? I know we dont want to travel Carnival from what I have heard from others but I want to go with more people our age then Holland has to offer. I like the formal atmosphere of Holland. We want to go on a 6-8 night cruise. Any more ideas?

HaHa... Carnival and Holland. Talking about one extreme to the other. Listen, when you are talking about the east or west caribbean, there will not be many variances in weather patterns. It's after the hurricane season and before the rainy season. If you look at a map, you will see many caribbean islands lining up on nearly the same latitudes, thus making their near equatorial climates similar. Most islands and ports are going to average close to 80 degrees year round and the water will vary only about six degrees from summer to winter. You have to decide if you want something like Cayman Islands, Montego Bay, Belize, and Cozumel? Or, would you prefer something more like Turks and Caicos, St. Lucia, and Barbados? Again, I am not naming any certain itenerary. I am simply giving you some options. Depending on the cruise line that you choose, some even have their own private islands for exclusive use by their passengers. Let us know what you need.

Hi Keli, welcome to Cruise-Chat. There are so many wonderful itineraries in the Caribbean. We've sailed on Carnival, Costa, Norweigan Caribbean, Royal Caribbean, HAL, and Princess. So far, to me, Princess is the best. If you have a good travel agent that is a cruise specialist in your area, that would be the best bet. They can take your requirements and match you to the best fit. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Princess fits us the best, but we've had wonderful cruises on the rest of the lines as well. If you like Italian, Costa is great. There are a lot more children on board Costa, but it is a wonderful and fun experience. We went on the Magica last December, she was a beauty! Best wishes and if you find your ideal itinerary, we'll be happy to help with excursions as well.

Hello Keli, if you like the more formal atmosphere of Holland America, but want more people your age, and have decided against Carnival, sounds like Princess would be the right fit for you.

And as DR. L says, weather shouldn't even be a consideration; and part of the Caribbear will be nice. Just research the Islands and decide which sound good to you. Princess has many itineraries to all parts of the Caribbean.

Would Princess and Royal Caribbean be considered in the middle of Carnival craziness and Holland Elite?
We've done the Western Caribbean and loved it. I've heard the some of the Eastern IS cruises like, Nassau, San Juan St Thomas aren't as nice as the Western.
What is Turks and Caicos, St Lucia and Barbados considered?

Keli.....What do you want to do on the islands? Are you the adventurous type who will do zip lines or parasail, climb waterfalls, snorkel or scuba? Or are you more the beach and suntan type? Or do you prefer to shop, have lunch and then return to the ship? Maybe you want to take in the local party establishments. This would all factor in as to the best ports to visit.

I absolutely love Carnivals private island Half Moon Cay. This is as close to paradise as you will get. What a great day to just lay on the beach, have a few drinks and enjoy the beautiful water. I also love Grand Turks. Another lay on the beach and/or party at Margaritaville right off the ship. Cozumel is one of my favorite ports for excursions and for partying at Senor Frogs or Carlos and Charlies. So much to do here! Grand Cayman is a great stop. If you go you must swim with the stingrays.

We did the Carnival Conquest in Feb 2005 and went to Montego Bay Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel and had absolutely perfect weather.
