How cold might it be during December crossings between LA and Hawaii? We were warned that it could be "cold" but I'm thinking, "always sunny and warm LA" to "always sunny and warm Hawaii". But we will be out in th middle of the ocean for about 4 days each way, and we would like to be able to enjoy at least part of the crossings from a deck chair with a good book. Do we need hooded sweatshirts? long johns? gloves? It was pretty chilly at times on our Alaska cruise in September but we were prepared for it. Thanks for any suggestions.

We cruised Hawaii to Ensanada in April. Hawaii was beautiful. I planned to lay by the pool everyday and read a good book on our 7 day cruise back to the mainland. Boy was I wrong! http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo...icon_frown.gif As we left Kauai a BBQ was served on the Lido deck. What a great way to say goodby to Hawaii. Wrong! Not 5 miles out to sea and the winds picked up so bad that food was flying off the plates. Within 20 minutes everyone was inside. For 90% of the cruise we stayed inside. It was only about 65 degrees out and the wind chill factor was colder than that. Too cold to use the pool or even lay out. You could hardly walk. Good thing the Hawaiian Ambassador had so many great things planned inside.

I can only assume December will be colder. I would plan accordingly.

HHHHHHHH now you have me wondering. We are taking the cruise from LA to Hawaii on Mar 2nd wonder what the weather is then anyone have an idea?

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like warm clothes will be the key to enjoying the crossings. We're looking forward to the relaxation so we want to be comfortable. We got word from a couple that sailed in June and who said it was too chilly even then to be outside much, as they'd only packed Hawaii clothes.
Stayed tuned and we'll let you know how it goes. My mantra is "It's Hard to Have a Bad Day on a Cruise Ship" so I know it'll be Great!

I'd appreciate information/predictions from anyone who has made the crossing from San Diego to Hawaii in early January

Of course, coming from frigid Ontario, anything will seem warm by comparison.
