Hello. I have never been on a cruise. I am taking my girlfriend on one for her birthday. It will be her first as well. I want it to be awesome. A caribbean cruise. Please help.
Western Caribbean always a good choice! They are in abundance so priced well. I recemmend Royal Caribbean, 7 nights, balcony. Plenty of fun shore excursions. Go while the kids are still in school! Have fun!
Look at cruises that visit Grand Cayman and Aruba, as these two islands are especially interesting and fun to visit.
As for ships...stay with the premium and major cruise lines and you will get a nice cruise at an affordable price. All ships are nice but some of the newer ships have more things to offer than older ones (rock climbing walls, ice skating..). The ultra fancy cruise lines are for older, established travelers.
Many first time cruisers will opt for a short (less that 7 day) cruise to see if it is something they will enjoy. These can be less expensive and give you the flavor of cruising. No matter what you choose, the experience of being at sea is wonderful and just don't forget to enjoy the ship and all it has to offer. Enyoy!
You can pull up cruiselines such as Royal Caribbean and check out all of their ships- age, refurbished, amount of cruisers it holds, etc. When you find a cruise you are interested in...come back and ask for specific help such as picking out shore excursions.
Why not go talk to an Travel Agent that specializes in cruises. They have most likely sailed on many different cruise lines and have a wealth of knowledge to help you sort out all the different options. They can save you a lot of time.
Assuming you are on the young side 20s-30s you may prefer Carnival which is know as the "Fun Ship" I recommend Conquest. We recently did 5 days on the Elation and it went to Grand Turks,(Party at Margaritaville) Half Moon Cay (relax on this private island beach)and Nassau (Visit Paradise Island). We had an awsome time! But BEWARE! Cruising is addicting!
