I am going on a west med cruise in Oct. Can't seem to get any good info on excursions. We leave Bacelona and go to Cannes, Livorno, Rome, Naples and Venice. I need some info on the excusions in these areas. Someone who has actually done them if possible. Just overall view of things to do or not to do. Don't miss this or you can miss that. This is an RCCL cruise. If someone can help that would be great.Thanks.
Jimmy1 - Welcome to cruise chat! We can certainly help you here. Look in our Europe Port section for more info. I just came back from an eastern Med cruise but I can help you with Livorno, Rome and Naples. Do you have any particular interest for any of these ports or are you just trying to figure out what you could do?
Rome- well there is a lot to do here, but ALL of it can be done easily on your own at much less cost than the cruise ship booked tours
Naples- Not much in Naples itself, but from Naples you can get to Pompeii, Herculanium, Sorento, the Amalfi Coast, Capri...
Livorno- Again, not much in Livorno, but you can easily get to Pisa and Florence by train.
Wrtie back with more details on what you'd like to see and we can help.

Hey Jim C, thanks for answering so quick. I do not know if I posted in the right place because this is my first time.
In Livorno I definately want to see "David" and Pisa. Can I do this on my own or should I purchase the tour through RCCL.
In Naples I definately want to go to Pompei. But they also offer Capri, Sorrento and Amalfi Drive. I know a little bit about all of them but not enough to decide where to go.
Just asking for general ideas. The cruise lines always recommend you buy in advance. What do you think?

I know there is a lot to do in Rome. That is stating the obvious.
What I am looking for is an opinion on RCCL tours vs private guided tours. We want to see as much as possible in the time allotted by RCCL. It sounds like that the private guided tours are the way to go. That way we are not waiting on 30 people doing whatever.
