As far as I know, you do not need shots for Mexico. I have been to Cancun, Cozumel and on my way to Costa Maya and did not need any shots.

Check the CDC website or call Carnival to be sure.

Hi Tony. Welcome. Immunizations aren't necessary for entering Mexico. Check with Carnival and C.D.C. for further information.

My advice to a first timer to Mexico is... don't drink the water. Avoid ice too. Eat at cruise ship recommended establishments only.

Have a great time.

Shots are best taken making a jabbing motion of the drink to your mouth and throwing your head back simultaneously, followed immediately with the word smooth, spoken with a full breath but not exhaling.

Injections are a pain in the "neck" or other parts in lower regions.

Of course, Ken, in order to really celebrate being in Mexico, salt and a slice of lemon do nicely when combined with that shot!

I love Andrea... (even though she is always one step ahead of me in answering posts.. Darn 100 wpm ), but I have to disagree with her on one aspect. Even if Carnival recommends the establishment, I would still steer clear of tap water and ice. They are only as pure as their suppliers. Be careful and don't let Montezuma have the last word on your vacation.

Good to mention ice. I narrowed down a bug I hosted in the Dominican Republic to ice. Same water, in frozen state doesn't necessarily kill the bugs. In fact it may preserve them! I did loose 20 lbs. through that ordeal.

My sincerest sympathy, Ken--I've been there too.

Now I am by no means advocating throwing caution to the wind, but I have been eating and drinking in Mexico since 1957, long before my first cruise, and I have only been stricken one time--from food at a fast-food joint in Long Beach, CA.

I've had a number of shots, that I did not ask for.

There is much that could be said for throwing caution to the wind. My understanding is that a little dirt is good for you. Give your immune system a little work, become stronger, right?
