It would be more stylish if you followed the John Belushi model from Animal House, when he broke the folk singer's guitar.

So - put on a toga, listen to the miscreant carefully for a minute with a look of concentration on your face, then suddenly smash the cellphone and say "sorry".

I think it would be much cooler to just grab it and flick it overboard--no need for the violence.

So do I, but I'm pretty faster.
I just ... take a look at my cell display

To take things seriously (er ... seriuosly ?), I remember when I was in college we all had a digital sportwatch with stopwatch.
The only use of them was during the lessons, for a silent and no bothering fun: "who starts/stops the faster wins".
The class record - quite surely the World Record - was 0,04 secs.

BTW, you're reading this from Mr. Golden Finger 1977 ...

Alas, cell phones do have a purpose but they are often abused. I do not turn my cell phone on when I am aboard a ship but they do have their uses. The first time that I went to Venice, I couldn't find my hotel amongst the maze of canals and alleys. (By the way, you can't ask Venetians for directions as they are notorious liars who derive much pleasure from sending tourists on wild goose chases.) Since I had the hotel's phone number, it was easy to call and get specific directions from where I was standing.
