My daughter and I are going on our first cruise. We're going on a 4 day to bahamas 4/08 on Carnival Sensation.

Have a few questions, thanks in advance for your help.

When you go on a shore excursion that involves a water activity, what do u do with your belongings especially credit card, id?

Is it best to book shore excursions with the cruise company or with one that u googled?

Last, but not least, we don't know how we will handle the travel on water but what would be a good level to get our cabin on? Someone told us don't get the lowest because of engine noise.

Thank u very much
Sue

Hi brits4, welcome to cruise-chat. Congratulations on your first cruise. Not sure what your ports are, probably Nassau and Freeport(?). In Nassau, take a cab to the Atlantis on Paradise Island (across the bridge from where you dock). There is a public beach right next to the Atlantis, and the Atlantis is a really unique hotel/casino/water park. There is also the Queen's staircase and the straw market, both of which you can do on your own. My normal rule of thumb is sticking with a ship excursion in a port that I'm new to, but Nassau is easily done on your own. If you're going to Freeport as well, stick with an excursion either through the ship or one you found on-line. From the posts I've read lately, this is better. Freeport used to be one of my favorite spots, but everyone has said it's gone downhill. We bought a water proof pouch that we wear around our necks for keeping our credit card, ship card, driver's license, and cash dry while we snorkel or swim. We got ours through American Express, but they have them in any dive shop and on board. The better cabin selection will be mid-ship, both from top to bottom and front to back. If you can afford it, go with a balcony. It is awesome to be on your own balcony for sunrise, sunset, entering and leaving a port. Best wishes and hope you enjoy your cruise! Be warned, cruising is addictive http://cruise-chat.com/groupee_commo.../icon_wink.gif

Great questions....I've been on Sensation and it's a nice, fun boat!!

When you go on an excursion on a boat, there is ALWAYS someone from the crew off the boat to watch your stuff. In Nassau, there are few water excursions. Just take a taxi to ATLANTIS. Everyone deserves to see Atlantis once in their life. If you're going to Freeport, can't give you any advice. Haven't been there for years. But your belongings are usually safe.

As for boat rockin', the closer you can get to the middle of the boat and the lower on the ship the better you will be. HOWEVER, if the boats a rockin, it doesn't really matter where you are!! For the most part, it isn't that bad!! As for boat motor noise, don't worry about it!! People like to complain about every little thing. I've been on the back and on the bottom and slept like a baby!! The boat noise isn't that bad!!

Have a great cruise!! And try to chilled Cream of Zuchini soup!! It's "to die for". My opinion.

Congratulations on your first cruis! I'm sure you will have a great time!!

If you want to keep your credit cards, cash and ship card with you thet sell waterproof cases you can wear around your neck that will keep them safe and dry. I have NEVER seen anyone from the ship come along to watch things. If you are out on a tour boat diving, snorkeling or whatever your things shold be pretty safe when you are in the water.

As for booking the excursions. I have done both and had good success. Only thing to consider, if you are late returning from an excursion you booked on your own the ship will not wait for you. Nassau is not a very big place and it would not be too difficult to get back to the ship on your own if the need arose.

To answer the above question, the only time I will take an excursion independent of the cruise line would be if I had a recommendation from someone I trusted. I would most definitely avoid finding an operator solely through an Internet search.

I would have to agree with LisaP. That is some good advice IMHO. Since this is your first cruise I would stick with ship sponsored tours. Or as Penny said in Nassau do some things on your own such as Atlantis and the beach.
