personal I.D. when in port

Hi everyone, after reading through back topics I have a quick question to ask. We have only previously sailed on a britsh ship(P & O), whereby when you left the ship for the day you merely took your cruise card as identification for getting back on the ship. Is this also sufficient for American cruise lines (Celebrity) or do we have to have additional paperwork with us?. Thanks Janet

Most cruise lines require the cruise card and a photo I.D.;
a photocopy of the first page of your passport is also strongly recommended.
