I haven't flown in 13 years....yeah 13 years! My friends and I always take roadtrips plus my friends don't like to fly. Anyway, my question is does it matter what size your checked luggage is? Like if it is small enough to be a carry on do they make you carry that piece of luggage on the plane? I am trying to make sure that my luggage that has my toiletries don't have to be a carry on because I don't want to follow the 3 ounce or less rule.

vacation, there are upper limits to the size of luggage, but not lower limits. You can check a carry-on size bag; no one will make you carry it onto the plane.

What I've done a few times is put my toiletries into a flight bag and checked that through, keeping a rollaboard with all my clothes in it with me on the plane. I figure that if luggage is lost and it's just my toiletries, they can be replaced. But if I check my suitcase that has my clothes, and that's lost on my way to a cruise, I'll be without my things for a good part of the cruise.

Just a thought...

Also- every airlines has a website that gives you luggage dimensions and weight allowable. On my way back from Alaska my suitcase was a few pounds over and the girl let it go through being nice...boy was I holding my breath. Most airlines also charge for items checked in if it's more than 2 per person. Go online and check it out....be prepared...you don't want any last min surprises.
