Can anyone give me an idea of what it cost to be evacuated if you have a medical emergency? I'm trying to buy insurance and there are too many choices. We have medical insurance that will cover us outside the US so I'm mostly concerned with the evacuation piece. I'm leaning toward the Travelex, has anyone used this??

This will vary depending from what destination you are being evacuated from and being evacuated to. I have heard figures of $10,000 plus.

It cost me 10k just for a 15 mile helicopter ride for my wife last September, when she was medflighted. Air evacuation by jet ambulance can easily run $100,000 or higher, say for instance going from Cozumel to Miami. Why so much? Because they can and also because there is so much default on paying for these runs they have to pass the costs on in hopes that some will pay and it will even out.
