First time cruiser and need to know what would be the best deck for cabin selection. I notice that the lower the deck, the cheaper the cabin. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the upper and lower decks? Which offers less chance of seasickness?
Although they are more expensive, truth is you will feel much more movement on the upper decks than you will down lower. The best cabins to avoid feeling motion are those that are located mid-ship. Avoid very far forward (those are usually the worst).

Although some may disagree with me, if you are concerned with motion sickness, make sure you book a cabin with a window. I have found it helps if I can focus on the horizon during rough weather. You can't do that in an inside cabin!
With a lower deck (I want a balcony as close to the water as possible) are there noise problems, or are the ships pretty insulated? I'm just trying to figure out why they'd be cheaper?
All balcony cabins are located on the upper decks, with the exception of penthouse suites and owners cabins located mid way up on some ships. Ships today are very much soundproofed. You will still hear a low hum, but after a day or two you won't even know its there. Plus, the most noise will be when in port, using the different motors to manuver the ship.
