Cruising to San Francisco

My sister, a friend and I are doing a mini cruise from Vancouver to San Francisco Sept.19. It'll be the first cruise for my sister and friend although I haven't done one like the one we are doing. My cousin has worried my sister a bit by saying that cruising down to San Francisco will be extremely rocky. Has anyone done this cruise either way? I would imagine it would depend on weather, but for the most part what would it be like?

Why did your cousin say this? "cruising down to San Francisco will be extremely rocky" is quite a strong statement.

Does she know that your sister and friend suffer from motion sickness on land and is concerned for them? Unless this is the case, I would say that she is envious or just cranky.

Well, we just took the Regal Princess to Alaska R/T from San Fran, on a 10 day cruise, on July 7th. The Regal does have stabilizers, even though she is 15 or so years old. My husband and I thought at times it was very rocky. One night in the dining room, we were rocking pretty good. You could definately feel it. It was only pretty bad for a few hours here and there. Lil' Lori...thanks for your reply. Do you remember where you found it rocky? Just outside of San Francisco, past Washington or Oregon? Maybe I can prepare my sister for it...hopefully it will be at night when we are sleeping! I've sailed from LA down the Mexican coast and have had 2 trips where it was rocky on the return to LA, and when I told her that, she said she'd never do that one.

Hi, well it was mostly while we were cruising next to Oregon and Washington. Off and on though for a while at a time it seemed. Keep in mind, the Regal is only 70,000 tons, she is pretty small. What ship are you on? If you are on a bigger ship, the Diamond or Sapphire, I would think it would be less rocky. They are newer too, so hopefully they have more sophisticated stabilizers. We passed both the Diamond and the Sapphire in the fjord in Tracy Arm, those ships TOWERED over us. The Regal is pretty small, she is tossed around easier. Also, where is your cabin.
