I saw it last night. The ship was "my" Regal Empress. I absolutely love this ship, but still got a laugh every time they referred to her as a "large cruise liner." (She's roughly 22K gross tons.) If it's on again, try to catch the quick glimpses of her most beautiful interior.
Of course, I would try it!! In college, I kneeboarded behind a jet boat travelling in excess of 75 knots (in a straight line of course). Fun, but my muscles were sore for about 3 days.
Use to ski in my younger days in Va. Have not tried it down here. Older now and there are gators!
I could single ski and jump the wakes. And yes, the muscles were sore after for days even back then in my early 20's. If I tried it now I would need an Icy-Hot body wrap!
The MS Deutschland made it into the Guiness book of world records last year.
This year on Oct 5th Deilmann made another water ski experiment: The river cruise ship MS Heidelberg "towed" 33 water skiers for 18 minutes (3.8 km) on the Mosel river. Another world record. They started out with 44 skiers. After 30 seconds the ship had enough speed to get the skiers out of the water. 33 arrived standing. BTW shortly prior to the finish line (a bridge) they made a pyramid.
