I just talked to my mom today, she was supposed to go on a med cruise on Carnival next October, with her church group. The person who was organizing it, told her, that "all cruise lines weren't cruising in the med anymore". I said "Huh" That did not make sense to me. Does anyone know anything about this?? Can anyone enlighten us???? Thanks for any info. Lil' Lori
A few weeks ago Carnival announced that it's planned 2009 European cruises of the Carnival Liberty were being cancelled. I guess the group was going on the Liberty? I think RCI also cancelled some South American cruises. It is just a reaction to fewer bookings for those continents because of the economy.
It would be great if they'd put another ship or two into Mobile or New Orleans. There could be some dynamite itineraries. Belize, Roatan, Key West, Grand Cayman, just to name a few. Costa just sent me an email with fantastic offers. There's a 17 day repositioning cruise that is 1/4 of what this upcoming Christmas/New Year's cruise is. Too bad I've spent all my money on this next cruise. It'll take me a while to get any more.
Well, thanks to everyone for the info. That sucks sorta, because she was really looking forward to her Med cruise. I forwarded the links to the articles that were posted to her. Thanks again, Lil' Lori
All's not lost, Lori. She may be able to rebook on Carnival Dream, or on another of the Carnival Corp. lines. We have at least a couple of Members in this situation... see page 2 of this thread.
There is certainly no shortage of ships doing Med cruises, so perhaps your Mom might want to consider a different cruise line. Carnival was one of the "new boys in the Med" and I suspect their weak brand name among Europeans did not help. Your Mom and her Church groups might want to consider RCI, Celebrity, Princess or Celebrity all of whom still run full schedules in the Med.
While I hate these planned cruises being canceled, the increased capacity on the east coast may lower cruise fares for those ports.
I would recommend they check the Carnival Dream's schedule and try to get the booking moved to those dates. This could turn out to be a good thing. Nothing against the Liberty.
