I have set up a group with my TA and I actually find it difficult to get others to want to cruise. I run the gammit from I am not sure I want to be on a "boat" for 7 days to they are afraid of getting sea sick to I cant imagine spending time on a cruise ship can be any fun. No matter what I come back with I can tell that they dont believe me. How do others have such an easy time getting others "on board" and how is it that other people easily get tons of people to go on the cruise with them

Cruising is not for everybody. No matter what you like, their will people who just don't care for that same activity. Cruising tends to offer a little of everything in my opinion. But you will still come across people who still picture a cruise ship that is loaded with nothing but retired people that are no fun, cabins that might as well be broom closets except for that prop shaft that runs through it etc etc... You just need to tell them how things really are, that its like going on a caribean vacation to multiple islands and how the cost compares to a "standard" vacation. After that they need to make up their own mind.

We got the entire family to go because my mother in law is sick and "this may be the last chance to get everyone together". Guilt is a powerful tool.. Actually I doubt we will be able to ever get my sister in law to cruise again. Both times, she has had nothing but problems...

I tell people about my first experience. I really didn't want to go, but some friends talked my wife into going. I pictured old folks laying around sunning themself all day.
Boy! was I wrong. After the cruise I couldn't get my mind off of cruising. I've done about everything, but cruising is the best vacation I can have. I'm trying to get a group together too. I have 2 cabins to go and I get a free birth. I need 8 and have 6. It's a Dec 9th cruise and It's about $700 per person for a balcony. That's a good price! I'm still having trouble getting two more couples to go. Good luck with your group...

That's a really great price, Sonny. Too bad I'm maxed out on vacation, or I'd sign my husband and myself up. Good luck! Just cannot believe people would not want to cruise, but I have friends that don't want to try it either. Even after they see the pictures. Oh well, don't know what they're missing.

Sonny, it's hard to believe that you can't get two more people to go on that cruise. What a great price! The ship will be so pretty--all decorated for Christmas.

Good luck getting the whole group together!

I find sometimes its the excitement that you give talking about your cruises. I have had groups that have bombed and have set up groups that have had as many as 100 cabins going..wish I knew the difference.

I have had people tell me they "couldnt swim" and didnt want to be out on the water that long. I just tell them I am not a great swimmer either and have no intention of jumping ship or planning on swimming out in the middle of no where.

Good luck, hopefully you will get your group together.

Some people you will never convince. When the "seasick" excuse comes up you can try telling them these are huge "Ships" with stabilizers. That it's not the same as going out on a rough lake in a small fishing boat. Also tell them of the many remedies of wristbands, patches, & pills. If you have cruised before show them pictures of your past cruise. Ask your TA if they have a video/DVD of the ship you are going on, or just an introduction to cruising video. You could have a Cruising Party and invite everyone that's already signed up and those you want to get to sign up. Make the dresscode something cruise oriented "Hawaii shirts/Caribbean". Serve some cruise oriented appetizers. Show the video and have anyone that has cruised before bring their pictures too. The enthusiasm of all the past cruisers will help. Ask your TA is she has or could get a copy of a daily bulletin for whichever ship your going on which you could show your friends all the activities that are scheduled. You TA may also be willing to give you a poster or two to hang at the party.

that is a fantastic idea! The enthusiasm would just pour out of everyone. My TA is also sending out the flyers for my group to other people who are calling her interested in cruising. Maybe that will help also. just the idea of a cruise party is exciting!!

...and if they don't, then you could always show Speed 2 or Poseidon Adventure.
