A passenger in our 3 person gorup does not have a passport. We will be sailing on the April 9th, 2007 Enchantment of The Seas Western Caribbean Cruise to Key West, Cozmel, And Belieze.... Will they make him have a passport, if yes, how do I get it within 1 month!

Not to sweat! You can get a passport in as little as three days. Just contact a passport service in your area (your travel agent can give you a name and phone number) and apply for the passport. Typically they have three day and five day services.

The five day is the least expensive. You will pay the passport service about $125 and Uncle Sam about $100.

It is my understanding that as of this January that passports will only be needed if FLYING into or out of the States. Cruising can, until January 2008, be done with a birth certificate and another form of government identification. The risk is if an emergency arises, it would be a little more difficult to fly home with out applying at an American Embasy for a temporary visa. I could be wrong, but this is my assumption from reading the government sites.
research here; passports

You are correct DanViv. Make sure they have the proper birth certificate though, with the raised seal on it.

Do not panic. Passports for cruises to the western Caribbean are not required this year. They are a good idea, but the person without one can cruise as long as they have a photo ID (drivers license) and an officially issued copy of their birth certificate. The birth certificate is important. No simple copies or notarized copies. It has to be either the original or a copy issued by a government entity such as the state of birth.

I am amazed that the person in question was not aware of this when the booking was made. This is something the agent should have covered with each of you.

A 'raised seal' is what a Notary would stamp upon a document to guarentee the origion. Sometimes called the long form certificate of a birth certificate.

The usual method is for an "official" copy to be embossed with the raised seal which is like when you get something notarized. But in this case a notarized birth certificate is no good. However, not all official agencies use a "raised seal". Some have just a stamp on the front, such as one you might see on a government check. This is just as good.

My husband and I are also just getting our passport for our end of May cruise (flying into Canada). We were told due to the new regulations everything is bottlenecked. Our local post office is giving appointments a month away! We did find a nearby post office that does walk-ins. We were also referred to a web site called travel.state.gove for information on expediting the passport. On that site they state you can pay and additional $60 for an expedited passport at the post office and use two way overnight delivery- however, "Normally it takes two weeks to receive your passport from the date you applied. Because of unusually high demand, it is now taking three to four weeks and possibly longer if you renewed by mail and did not mark "Expedite" on the mailing envelope." We should have enough time if we expedite and also we are covered by insurance if the passport does not come in time, but is there a faster way?
