Will I have to Check my Carry-on, I bought a 21 inch Cabin Carry-on Expandable suitcase, but after filling it it max's out to 46 inches. I'm taking American airlines out next week, will it be ok, or should i just plan on getting it checked. The dimensions on the suitcase are within the specs, but that's before packing it full.. Please Help...

The carry on dimension restrictions are "as you carry it on" not before I cram everything into it. You show up with a 4 foot suitcase as carry on and they will make you check it.

Last time I flew, the overhead bins and under the seat areas were not expandable. No, they will not let you carry it on, they will take it from you at the door if you don't check it.
My advice: Repack your carry-on. What's worse than trying to get to you seat while someone ahead of you is try to jam their over-stuffed carry-on into the overhead storage?
Sonny
Rules in Europe say one carry on item. That does not mean a suitcase and a purse. I would suggest just checking your 21 inch bag. Less hastle.

A 21" rollaboard typically has the dimensions 22 by 14 by 9 which equals 45 linear inches. So, I think that you are saying that when the bag is expanded, it is the linear inch measurement that is 46 inches? If so, that is above the 45" limit for AA, and they could (and should) make you check it. I agree with Sonny -- repack the bag so that it won't need to be expanded and you can then carry it on in most instances.
BTW, as someone who flies a lot, I've seen it all... and have noted that a 22" rollaboard, although labeled as a carryon, won't fit in many overheads. Just an FYI.
OHHHH.. now I understand. I'm sorry, I thought you meant that it expanded from a 21" long measurement to a 46" long measurement. Hence my smart but answer... I am sorry.
For your 46 inche question then, I agree with Lisa and Sonny. While you most likely could get the expanded suitcase into the overhead, there are some planes in AA's fleet that have smaller overheads and you would have a problem.
If you can stay at 45, that would be worry free.
