Dinner Attire

It's been so long since we went on a cruise I can't remember....
My sister wants to know if "dress shorts" are allowed to dinner in the dining room? For adults or teenagers.
I told her I didn't thinks so but I'd ask my good friends at cruise-chat.com!

I think dress shorts...not short shorts...are ok. Definitely no bathing suits. Most people wear slacks and shirts, maybe a day dress or skirt. Best thing to do is pack the shorts, with some CHOICES as my wife likes to say. Then check with your particular ship!

hi cousins. Dress shorts is broad. Skorts, I would say, are okay. Nice khaki shorts, maybe. Jean shorts, no. My teenage daughter, who is 17, brings skirts and sundresses. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I think they are going on a Carnival ship...but you know teenagers and their idea of "dress shorts"! I know with RCL our book details "evening wear" and shorts are mentioned nowhere.

I just got back from a Carnival cruise and most were wearing sundresses and long pants and/or capri's with nice shirts in the dining room. I wore sundresses and skirts every night.

Cousins... I won't wear, or let my 2 daughters' wear, shorts in the dining room on formal night. Just a thought.

That's exactly what I told her. When you live in Palm Beach FL men wear dress shorts and nice shirts to go out to eat all of the time. So she was also asking about her husband (they are going on RCCL) I told her In Palm Beach yes on the cruise ship NO...it won't kill him to "dress Up". Thank you all.

Cousins, my sister lives in Palm Beach, FL and her "not so better half" has a boat moored in the causeway. He wears his khaki shorts, boat shoes and logo polos everywhere he goes. The polos have Palm Beach Country Club embroidered on them. Doesn't matter the event or affair, he's in the same garb time after time.

They will see when they are at the formal night how dressed up cruisers can get. It's a nice chance to take photos. I would rather be over dressed than under dressed at any event.

Cousins, you didn't say which cruise line or ship you are going on, but Island Princess had a "Shorts are not permitted in the dining room" sign at the entrance to each dining room.
