Another Insurance Story

I got a note from my agent yesterday telling me about one of her clients. Here is part of the e-mail: "What a day! A couple this Sunday can't go. They were in a Junior Suite. The son is in the Royal Suite and paid for everyone, including 1st class air and....after spending all this $$, did not get insurance."

A medical issue suddenly popped up for one of the people.

I just can't fathom spending five figures for a cruise and air and then not spending three hundred or so for the insurance.

You know what it is Dave, everyone says it won't happen to them. I see it all the time. I have had people loose their trip due to medical or family emergencies and lost all they invested. I tell people its like car or homeowners insurance, you hate to pay it, hope you dont have to use it, but glad you got it if something should arise.

I agree with that. We got the insurance for our Mariner cruise in May and we certainly didn't spend $5K!!!

On a recent cruise we had friends who spent $5000. but did not get insurance.
Tried to explain to them that anything could happen and it is a good thing to have.
Could not get that through to them.
We hate to spent the $500+ for insurance but we do
We are late 50's and you just never know.

On our cruise we had a lady fall during some rough seas ..they had to take her to hospital in Cartegena ...she broke her leg but it was a small fracture and they allowed her to continue the cruise otherwise she would have to fly home to the U.K.

I don't understand it, either. Then again, we purchase travel insurance even for domestic land trips that involve air travel. You never know when a vacation will be interrupted by an emergency at home.

It's not just the medical reasons they should buy insurance. Today I had clients unable to get out of sunny Nashville because the flights to snowy New York were all cancelled. They were suppose to catch a connection in New York to continue on to Rome. The airlines won't be able to get them out until Monday. The insurance's trip interupption and trip delay will help them.
