I was just wondering if people on a cruise ship could get actual mail. If they can would I just address it with the person's name and cabin number, ships name at the ship's pier address? Thanks.

Absolutely!

While docked in Aarhus, Denmark last summer I received a package from a fellow member here from Italy. It was one of the biggest surprises of my Baltic cruise.

Thank you again, Fredo!

i had responded "no" to the duplicate thread in the Carnival section, but it looks like i'm wrong

mattox - was the package purchased through carnival, or was it send through the regular mail? i just dont see how the post office could handle such a thing

It could be hit or miss too, as far as delivery reliability.

I mail to my daughter quite frequently, as she is crew her address includes a Crew ID and department number. I can see that a letter with a cabin number and name might get through but as Dave said probaby hit or miss. It can take several weeks sometimes before she will get something I send. The other wrinkle is the ships home port has not always been the mail address for the ship. Strange as it seems when she sailed out of Port Everglades, her mailing address was in Miami.

I don't suggest trying it with anything important.

Mikethekid;

I was so impressed, I still have the envelope. Just for grins here is exactly how it was addressed:

Mr. Frederick Mattox
(from Costa Mesa, California, U.S.A.)

Guest on Veendam
Cruise Ship of "Holland America"

Docked at Arhus Port
on July 1st, 2007

ARHUS - DENMARK

And the cabin number was on the envelope in another hand, presumably someone in the Purser's staff.

So it had all the necessary information. It was postmarked June 14, 2007 from Italy.

Still, rather remarkable.
