Is passport required if going to the Bahamas

Hi, are passports required when traveling to the Bahamas?

If you are a US Citizen you do not need a passport. You will need your ship boarding card and picture ID to get back on the ship in Nassau. The cruiseline itself requires raised seal County Clerk Birth Certificate or a passport. Passport preferred. After December 31, 2006 a passport will be required.

Thanks for the information. One more question if you don't mind. The wife of the couple that we are going with, is not a citizen, but has her birth certificate and green card. Would that be sufficient?

The raised seal birth certificate and valid green card will work. She should also have another form of picture id. since the ship may or may not hold her green card.

Thank you! She does have picture ID. She just started her papers with immigration, but it will take at least 6 months to complete the process. Thank you again!

I always recommend to scan you passport, seal it and than take it with you on shore excursions.
All the authorities are satisfied with this copy.
People in Nassau, who had no picture id were stopped in november and the port authority employees were really upset about it, some longer discussion followed and other passengers were nerveous, about waiting so long in the line.
