Cruises w/ foreign ports, do you need visas??

Hello. We are thinking of doing a Princess cruise around Asia, in 2-3 years. We already have passports. My questions is, do you need a visa for each different country you are in port at for a day. Someone at work told me, if you are there for less than 24 hours, you don't need a visa. Do anyone know what the current requirement is now. I realize it can change. I am curious, I like to plan way ahead, and not have any surprises. Thanks, Lil' Lori
