Thanks IC and Penny: regarding Oregon, I grew up on the beaches of central/northern California (Santa Cruz to Monterey). I love the beach, but no longer in lengthy time frames. In the Sacramento area, we have very hot summers (but it's a dry heat), and frankly, I'm getting real tired of those as well. I have been converted to a mountain man and the great outdoors. The central Oregon summers are warm, 80s and 90s, and somewhat humid, but bearable. The winters are definitely cold; I was advised that where our property is, one requires a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle, with a plow, and a snowmobile, just in case. Long, cold, hoary nights beside a fireplace, with my wife, some wine, and the muffled sound of snow falling intrigues me. I'll hit the Caribbean and Mexican Riviera when I need to get away for a little bit.

I was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale. I always thought I'd missed something by not having the changing seasons and snow. Twelve years in Colorado has cured me. The 6 weeks of summer went by way too quickly. The rest of the time was way too cold. Maybe it's different if you don't have to go to work every day, but I pray I will never have to endure cold weather and snow again. Best wishes and I hope you'll enjoy it much more than I.
