I'm looking for a Caribbean cruise that's long on fitness opportunities. (going by myself and want this to be a fitness vacation - workouts, classes, eating right) Can any cruise lines beat Royal Caribbean for their facilities?)
ECC,
Welcome to Cruise-Chat. All the new ships on any cruise line have nice gym facilities. Even the older ships have decent gym facilities. Also every cruise line I have ever been on has healthy choices on their menus.
On all of the ships I cruised on, there was always a full featured gym that included: Cardio equipment(treadmills, stationary bikes, nordic track, etc.), weight machines, free weights.
In addition there was always a separate room for group work-out in: yoga, aerobics, spinning taught by an instructor.
There will always be adequate fitness facilities on every ship. Just some ships (especially with R.C.) have better fitness facilities and options than others.
As for me, I never used them. I go on a cruise to relax and be lazy. I save my workouts for my local gym at home.
Welcome to Cruise-Chat, ECC!
I think you'll find state of the art equipment on any cruise line--I know Royal Caribbean does for sure. My wife worked out every day while on our two week cruise. I only did once...I figured I was on vacation.
Take the stairs and not the elevators, swim, snorkel, dive and walk in every port and you probably won't even need the gym on board. However, all ships have nice facilities with all different kind of programs available. They even have exercise classes out by the pool. Some of the ships even have walks for causes. The last few cruises we've been on have had 5K walks for Susan G. Koman. I enjoy watching people exercising, makes me feel so much more fit.
