Most definitely use a travel agent. Direct cruise line bookings are processed by simple order takers. They have no vested interest in providing you with the lowest price, nor any kind of service. A good cruise travel agent has the knowledge and expertise to provide you with quality service, and will invest the time to find you the best price.

a good travel agent usually is the best recommendation one can give. Of course the TA should be experienced when it comes to cruises, but if you e.g. visit a CLIA-certified travel agent, you're usually in very good hands!
I second the last 2 comments. In addition, I would add that good price doesn't necessarily mean good value. A good cruise agent will work hard to find the best cruise value for you. What good is a cheap cruise if you end up hating the whole experience - especially if you could have enjoyed it on a different ship or cruise line?

Thank you for all your replies. I have been reading some other opinions and we were wondering if it was better to go directly through the cruise company.
