Hey, I did some research online and discovered that the pyramids at Chichen Itza have been closed to climbing since March 2006. Many say that the closing is to preserve the ruins, but I found another site that said the death of an 80 year-old woman was the last straw and that the pyramids were too dangerous. I researched the ruins for about 30 minutes before I found a picture that showed the ruins roped off. None of the tourist sites mention the closing, so I wanted to give warning to anyone else planning a trip. My husband and I will still visit, but I am disappointed that we can no longer climb the ruins.
