Independently booked excursions...

I have read a number of postings from people that have booked excursions independently in an effort to save money rather than use the ones offered by the cruise line. I am curious to know if those people using independent operators have checked to see if the operators carry liability insurance. Has that even been a consideration by anyone booking with an independent operator? I would love to hear comments.

I called the chamber of commerce in Key West for a referral and then checked with a Florida Better Business Bureau office to find out if they have had complaints, excursions independently.
