Ocho Rios is usually one of the port stops on most seven day cruises. You will hear a lot of controversy about Ocho Rios, both pro and con. You should be able to do a search on the ports of call section and find plenty to read about Jamaica.

The most popular thing to do in Ocho Rios is to go to Dunn River Falls which can also include tubing as an extension of the excursion. You want to use common sense precautions in Jamaica just as you would in any port. Don't flash money or jewelry around, be aware of your surroundings, and say a polite firm "No", to street vendors and move on. I would stay with organized tours or go with a group. Don't wander off on your own. There is no reason you can't enjoy Jamaica.

I've been to Ocho Rios 2 times now & the last time was in June. We went to the Dunn's River Falls which was an excursion we did through the ship. I don't think I would do any excursion that was not through the ship. You can also go shopping which is in walking distance from the ship. There's a nice shopping area on the right side & there's also a beach area that appears to be part of the shopping area. Wish I would have found this earlier in the day.

Jamaica is a beautiful but poor island. Do not go off on your own there. Stay with a group. Dunns River Falls is a must see, it's beautiful. You can climb the falls or walk beside them, but the climb is fun. The water is surprisingly invigorating (read cold), but by the time you reach midway, you're happy it is. We also did an excursion to Fern Valley that was nice. The last time we were there we did a catamaran sail/snorkel which was nice. We've done all of our excursions through the ship. Jamaica is one port I highly recommend doing a ship excursion. Best wishes and have a fantastic cruise!

Yeah i just wanted to get other's opinion of it. Me and my spouse went to ocho rios february 07. And we did the dunn's river falls and it was such a workout. I did enjoy it and the water is so very cold. I was just so aggravated when i went there because of all the aggresion that was presented to us. I didnt wear any jewelry or anything fancy when i went. I would politely say i wasnt intrested then some of the people became very rough wihout saying we were liars and they know we have money and things like that. One of the people in the market outside of the dunn river falls went as far as to grab my arm and pull me into her store. That was a big mistake, because when she asked my name she immediatley went to carving it on a wood carving then told me okay that would be 10 dollars. I told her i didnt ask for it and then she became even more upset. So to make the situation calm i went ahead and gave her the 10 dollars for the carving. Like the other post i would highly recommend anyone to go with a group in jamaica and not go off on your own.

Yes we did suggestions take a cheap cab to Dunn's River Falls..take water shoes and a waterproof camera and have fun.
We also walked the "town" near the port to see the locals "goods" a little scary but other than being offered drugs "Do you want to party?" we had a great time!

WOW cousins LOL i didnt have that problem of being offered any drugs or anything like that, but dunns river falls almost gave me a heart attack.

CruiseMstr-If you want to see a bit more of Jamaica and not be too harrassed you might consider the quiet rafting trip on the Martha Brae river. It is a great, relaxing tour, available thru the cruiseline and allows a great look-e-look at what Jamaica is all about! We'll be doing same in Feb. 2010!

I didn't have those problems of being confronted about anything, now my nephew says he was asked if he wanted something to smoke but the other 19 of us had no incidents to report we had a great time.
